Microgaming, the world’s leading developer of online casino games, powers the numerous Baccarat variants available to play right here at Vegas Palms Casino. This means that, whichever Baccarat title you choose to play, you will enjoy stellar graphics and seamless gameplay plus friendly and professional service, courtesy of our expert staff at Vegas Palms Casino.

The Basics of Baccarat

Heard great things about Baccarat but not really sure how to play? No problem! Baccarat is actually one of the simplest card games around.

Basically, it is a betting game in which you must decide whether you think the player’s or the banker’s hand will win. The banker and the player are each dealt two cards and the object of the game is for these to add up to a number as close to (or equal to) nine as possible. This number is calculated by adding up the values of the two cards in each hand. Card values are as follows:

  • Face cards (King, Queen, Jack) and 10s: Zero.
  • Numbered cards: Face value.
  • Aces: 1.

If a hand adds up to more than ten, then the first digit is dropped, while the second digit becomes the hand total. For example, if a hand adds up to eighteen, then the one falls away and the hand total is eight. Meanwhile, if a hand total is equal to or less than five, then the Third Card Rule applies and an additional card is dealt to make up the total.

Baccarat Betting Options

As mentioned, in Baccarat, unlike most other card games, the objective is not to beat the banker; it is to guess whether the player or the banker will have a hand total closest to nine. As such, there are three bets to choose from, each with different odds and commensurate payouts) in Baccarat:

  • Player bet: Wagering that that the player’s hand total will be closer to nine than that of the banker, or that the player’s hand total will be equal to nine. (1.29% odds*)
  • Banker bet: Wagering that that the banker’s hand total will be closer to nine than that of the player, or that the banker’s hand total will be equal to nine. (1.01% odds*)
  • Tie bet: Wagering that the banker and player will have hand totals equal to each other. (15.75% odds*)

*Odds differ depending on the number of decks in play. The odds given here apply when a single deck is used.

Baccarat Trivia

Most historians believe that Baccarat dates back to the late 1300s, when an Italian named Felix Falguerei invented it. Thereafter, it made its way to France, where it was a popular pastime of King Charles VII’s men in the 15th Century. The game reached North America in the 1800s, although it played second fiddle to our table game online blackjack, until the 1950s. In the interim, Baccarat travelled to Cuba, where it was renamed Punta Banco.
